Children Mental Health Support Assistant
Location: KentStart Date: September 2026Salary: £440 to £550 per week
About the role
The role of a Children Mental Health Support Assistant is to help young people with a diagnosis of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) access education. Successful candidates will support students academically and emotionally, ensuring they are cared for and encouraged to develop and progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Support children with SEMH needs in their academic learning and emotional wellbeing.
- Build positive relationships with pupils and create a safe, supportive environment.
- Use calm and resilient approaches to manage challenging behaviours.
- Assist with safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff and parents to promote student progress.
Qualifications and Experience
- Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults, especially with SEMH challenges.
- Warm and friendly nature to build positive relationships with pupils.
- Calm, resilient, and patient approach when supporting children.
- Sense of humour.
- Desire to gain a permanent role within the school.
- A vision for education and commitment to safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults.
- Will undertake thorough interviewing, DBS checking and a DBS update service registration if needed.
