Role Description

The Area Support Security Officer is a support role with no fixed hours. The role is based in Wakefield and involves providing professional security support across designated customer sites. Day‑to‑day tasks include patrolling premises, monitoring access control systems, and ensuring the safety and security of colleagues, customers, and visitors. The role involves responding to incidents, reporting and documenting security breaches, and liaising with site management and emergency services when required. The Officer may be asked to cover multiple locations outside of Wakefield, adapt to varying shift patterns, and support other officers to maintain consistent service standards. The role also includes maintaining high levels of customer service, following site procedures, and upholding OCS’s values and security policies at all times.

Qualifications

  • Core security skills, including experience in guarding, patrolling, access control, and incident response in a corporate, retail, or facilities environment.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills to interact professionally with clients, visitors, and colleagues, and to provide clear verbal and written reports.
  • Situational awareness and risk assessment abilities, including observing behavior, identifying potential threats, and following escalation procedures appropriately.
  • Basic IT and systems skills for operating CCTV, access control platforms, radios, and digital reporting tools in line with company procedures.
  • Reliability and flexibility, including the ability to work various shifts, travel between sites in the area as required, and maintain punctuality and professionalism.
  • Relevant qualifications such as a valid SG, DS or CP SIA licence; proven security or facilities experience, and knowledge of health and safety practices are beneficial but not essential as training will be given.
  • Additional desirable qualifications include a clean driving licence, previous experience in facilities management settings, and training in first aid or emergency response.
