Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and qualified SEN Teacher to join a supportive school in Guildford, Surrey from September. This SEN Teacher role involves supporting two Key Stage1 pupils, one in Year1 and one in Year2, who have autism and speech and language/communication needs. One child is more verbal, while the other has more limited communication, so the successful SEN Teacher will be confident adapting their teaching approach to meet individual needs. This is a qualified teacher position, not a teaching assistant role. Applicants must hold QTS or be an ECT. The school has regular speech and language therapist involvement, so the SEN Teacher will work alongside wider specialist support to help both pupils develop their communication, confidence, independence and learning over time.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver tailored learning for two KS1 pupils with autism
  • Support pupils with speech, language and communication needs
  • Create a calm, structured and nurturing learning environment
  • Work closely with the SENCO, school staff and speech and language therapist
  • Use individualised strategies to support engagement, progress and independence
  • Monitor pupil progress and adapt teaching approaches where needed
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with both pupils

Qualifications

  • QTS or ECT status – essential
  • Experience teaching or supporting children with ASD – essential
  • Primary or KS1 experience – preferred
  • Experience supporting speech and language/communication needs – beneficial
  • A patient, consistent, and child-centred approach
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with specialist professionals
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs
