Job Overview
The Simulator Technician will be working as part of a small, on-base team at RAF Leeming, performing set‑up activities and essential maintenance to maximise the availability of Hawk training devices, in support of Joint Squadron aircrew training. Responsibilities include maintaining the Full Mission Simulator, Avionics Part Task Trainer and Desktop Training Devices, along with associated subsystems.
Key Activities
- Liaise with QFI’s regarding device availability, scheduled maintenance and unscheduled fault resolution.
- Prepare pilot training devices for customer use and assist with mission‑specific preparations on a daily basis.
- Undertake scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to maximise device availability, recording all maintenance activities performed.
- Diagnose faults and perform remedial maintenance (i.e. remove and replace unserviceable parts) in the most time‑efficient way possible.
- Raise fault reports and queries, identifying items requiring repair or replacement.
- Record spares consumption for each training device and follow the spares replenishment process according to BAE Systems procurement procedures.
- Follow the tool control process as described within the relevant Part 145 Acceptable Means of Compliance documentation.
- Draw on the experience of the L3 Field Service Rep (FSR) and apply that learning to ongoing support of the devices when the FSR returns to industry.
Accountabilities & Safety
- Follow safe working procedures and perform maintenance in a safe manner.
- Understand hazards and follow mitigation procedures.
- Understand and follow risk assessments.
- Maintain personal safety training currency and be responsible for personal safety.
- Familiarise with relevant CONOPS documentation and the Maintenance Safety Management Plan.
- Ensure devices are ‘safe to use’ when handed over for customer use.
- Report all accidents, incidents and near‑miss events in accordance with the organisation’s safety management processes and procedures.
- Assist in the control of visiting contractors.
Requirements
- Background in Avionic simulation systems or an experienced Information Technology background; device‑specific local training will be provided.
- Alternatively, a background in military aviation as a technician from an engineering discipline, preferably Avionics, Electrical or IT, including an Engineering Apprenticeship qualification (NVQ level 3) or City & Guilds 2675/2661 in Aeronautical Engineering and Maintenance or equivalent.
