Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology – Whipps Cross Hospital

We are looking for a Consultant to join the Obstetrics and Gynaecology team at Whipps Cross University Hospital in the Women and Children’s Division. The role will involve providing high‑quality care to a diverse population, supporting 4,200 births per year and working closely with colleagues across Barts Health.

Main duties

Join a multidisciplinary team of 18 consultants to deliver maternity and gynaecology services, contribute to the planning of a new hospital site, and collaborate with partner hospitals.

Job responsibilities

  • Plan and develop services in the new hospital and across Barts Health.
  • Work with MDT colleagues from The Royal London Hospital and Newham University Hospital to provide seamless patient care.

Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCOG or appropriate specialist registration
  • Relevant CCT or equivalent (confirmed by GMC)
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months
  • FMU ATSM of equivalent
  • Advanced Labour Ward ATSM or equivalent

Additional qualifications (desirable)

  • Further higher degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (MD, MSc, PhD)

Experience

  • Evidence of management and administration experience
  • Effective communication with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
  • Ability to work under pressure and a caring attitude towards patients
  • Prepared to live within 10 miles or 30 minutes of the hospital

Desirable experience

  • Experience at consultant level in the NHS

Skills

  • Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
  • Managing high risk pregnancies
  • Experience of obstetric scanning

Desirable skills

  • Experience of gynaecological scanning
