We are supporting a leading engineering consultancy in the appointment of a Principal Electrical Engineer to join their established and growing Data Centre team in the UK. This is a senior technical and leadership role, suited to an experienced electrical engineer with a strong background in mission-critical environments.
The Role
You will take a lead role in the delivery of complex data centre projects, acting as a senior technical authority while managing and developing multi-disciplinary MEP teams. This position offers significant influence over design strategy, technical standards, and project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design across large-scale data centre projects from early concept through detailed design and delivery
- Act as the principal electrical authority on mission-critical infrastructure including HV/LV systems, UPS, generators, and redundancy strategies
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical oversight to MEP engineers across multiple projects
- Engage directly with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders at senior level
- Ensure compliance with UK and international standards, codes, and industry best practice
- Support project planning, resourcing, and technical risk management
- Contribute to the ongoing development of technical standards and best practices within the data centre team
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Strong, demonstrable experience delivering electrical designs for data centres or other mission-critical facilities
- Proven experience leading and managing MEP or multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- In-depth knowledge of critical power infrastructure and resilience strategies
- Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership (IET or equivalent) preferred
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
