We havean exciting opportunity for a Specialist Audiologist in PrincessAlexandra Hospital NHS Trust to join the Audiology Department at PrincessAlexandra Hospital. You will be responsible for providing specialistaudiology services to adults and children with hearing difficulties,undertaking comprehensive diagnostic assessments where highly accurate resultsare essential for effective patient care. Working across a variety of clinicalsettings, you will manage complex caseloads, support patients, families, andcarers throughout their care journey, and deliver evidence-based interventionstailored to individual needs. You will work both independently and as part of amultidisciplinary team, liaising with services including Ear, Nose and Throat(ENT), Speech and Language Therapy, Central Appointments, and other Audiologydepartments to ensure coordinated patient care. In addition, you will beresponsible for supervising, teaching, and supporting clinical staff, providingday-to-day leadership, maintaining high clinical standards, and contributing tothe ongoing development and delivery of high-quality audiology services.

Main duties of the job

As a SpecialistAudiologist, you will be responsible for conducting otoscopic examinations to evaluate the condition of the ear canal and tympanic membrane, identifying abnormalities or contraindications and ensuring appropriate onward referral where required. You will manage a variety of technical assessment procedures,including Pure Tone Audiometry, Acoustic Admittance and Reflex Measurements,Speech Audiometry, and Oto-Acoustic Emissions testing, ensuring accurate datacollection and interpretation to support clinical outcomes. You will also beresponsible for taking precise aural impressions for the manufacture of earmoulds and custom hearing protection, maintaining high standards of accuracy,patient safety, and professional practice while supporting the effectivedelivery of specialist audiology services.

To interpret clinical findings and outcome information to support informed decision-making, ensuring that recommendations and next steps are appropriate to individual circumstances and aligned with service protocols.

To identify cases requiring escalation and facilitate timely onward referral pathways, maintaining effective communication with relevant healthcare professionals to support continuity of care and patientsafety.

To organise and coordinate community-based service delivery across multiple locations, managing schedules, resources, anddocumentation to ensure efficient and effective provision of care.

To maintain and update departmental procedures,protocols, and working practices, contributing to service consistency,regulatory compliance, and the continuous improvement of clinical standards.

To provide audiology services across a range of hospitaland community settings, adapting to different environments and ensuring a high-quality experience for patients regardless of location.

To participate in the development of specialist areas of practice through additional training and professional development, supporting the expansion of clinical expertise and enhancing the scope of services available within the department.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Recognised Audiology qualification or equivalent experience.
  • HCPC or RCCP registration.
  • Experience in diagnostic audiology and hearing aid services.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
  • Full driving licence; paediatric or postgraduate experience desirable.
