This is a rare opportunity to join the highly-regarded multidisciplinary liaison service at Homerton University Hospital (HUH) in Hackney. The post is a less-than-full-time (0.8) substantive role, offering flexible working arrangements and support from a collegial consultant body within the team and the wider Directorate.

Responsibilities
The post-holder will provide clinical leadership and work with the team manager and service lead to deliver high-quality assessment and treatment to adults and older adults presenting to HUH Emergency Department with mental health concerns. Key responsibilities include:
- Provide clinical leadership and strategic oversight of the liaison psychiatry service
- Deliver timely assessment and treatment to adults and older adults, including those with dementia/delirium, substance misuse and medically unexplained symptoms
- Contribute to overall management, service development and quality improvement initiatives
- Carry out assessments of working-age adults as part of cross-covering within a small multidisciplinary team
Qualifications and Experience
Essential criteria
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months (older adult or dual older adult/adult)
- Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
- MRCPsych or equivalent
- Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
Desirable criteria
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management

- Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty

Knowledge
Essential knowledge
- Excellent knowledge of the operation of acute adult and older adult mental health services
- Understanding of relevant Government guidelines, targets and legislation
- Understanding of social care structures relevant to older adults
- Excellent knowledge of mental health and capacity law, particularly application of the MCA 2005
Clinical Experience
Essential experience
- Excellent experience in an older adult mental health service
- Assessment and treatment of a wide range of mental health and psychological disorders using evidence-based interventions
- Assessment of cognitive impairment and diagnosis of dementia and delirium
Desirable experience
- Large range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to the role within the NHS or comparable service
- Experience of contributing to or leading service planning, development and management
