Night Admissions Clerk / Receptionist – Women’s Reception

A flexible approach to work is essential for this role in line with the requirements of the Post in the Admissions Office / Reception at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. Working with a team of highly committed staff, you will provide a first‑class and effective reception and admission service within the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
This is a night position: 2 nights on, 4 nights off, on a rolling 7‑day rota that includes weekends and bank holidays. Your role will be essential in ensuring the department runs smoothly outside of regular office hours.
You will maintain high standards of safety, quality and efficiency while working independently yet as part of a small team. You must remain calm and deal effectively with issues that may arise during the night shift and carry out core operational tasks to support the day staff, preparing a comprehensive handover to the incoming day team.
Main Duties of the Job
- Admit, transfer and discharge patients onto the hospital Patient Administration System following Policies and Procedures.
- Liaison with nursing and medical staff and other patient‑service staff regarding admissions, discharges and transfers.
- Update all ward activity and ensure the hospital bed state is accurate at all times.
- Provide general reception duties on the main reception in the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
- Provide wards with new notes if required and ID labels, ensuring accurate tracking of any hospital notes.
- Record attendances outside of clinic and ensure accuracy of outcomes.
- Use relevant hospital systems in line with the role.
- Demonstrate high attention to detail.
- Build and maintain close working relationships across the clinical administrative teams using standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure functions are carried out correctly and within given timescales.
- Undertake any other duties allocated by the Team Leader or Service Manager.
Other Responsibilities
Additionally, you will provide general support for the day staff by maintaining a smooth handover and ensuring accurate records of patient activity.

Person Specification
Knowledge & Experience
- Experience in front‑of‑house or customer‑facing roles.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
- Experience of lone working or work unsupervised.
- Previous experience working in a healthcare environment.
Qualifications & Training
- GCSE Grade C or equivalent qualification in English and one other subject, or relevant work experience.
- Keyboard skills – either through qualification or experience.
- IT qualification.
Personal Attributes & Skills
- Organised and self‑motivated.
- Experience dealing with emotional and demanding circumstances.
