Purpose of this role
As an integral member of the District Heating delivery team reporting to the Head of Delivery – Heat, you will be responsible for the safe, compliant, and successful delivery of a portfolio of district energy projects. You will ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the required quality standards while driving excellent customer service and a seamless transition to Operations & Maintenance.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, motivate, and coordinate a multi‑disciplinary team of engineers, suppliers, contractors, and Project Managers.
- Hold line‑management responsibility for Project Managers, ensuring performance, delivery, and professional development.
- Coach and support Project Managers across the portfolio, driving best practice and consistency.
- Oversee delivery of district heating projects, ensuring:
- Milestones and programme targets are met.
- Projects are delivered to agreed cost, quality, and performance standards.
- Effective project close‑out including lessons learned and continuous improvement.
- Champion a strong health and safety culture across all projects.
- Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and heat network regulations.
- Oversee audits, inspections, and safety performance, ensuring adherence to company governance and regulatory requirements.
- Own commercial performance across the portfolio, including:
- Budget management and CVR forecasting.
- Cost‑to‑complete accuracy.
- Margin protection and optimisation.
- Contract development, negotiation, and administration.
- Change management and compensation events.
- Risk, issue, opportunity, and financial exposure management.
- Responsible for the design and build of energy centres, distribution pipe networks, HIU installations and connections, ensuring quality across installation, commissioning, and handover.
- Support innovation, constructability, and value engineering initiatives.
Qualifications
- Degree or HND in Engineering, Energy, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- APM project management qualification (or equivalent).
Experience and Knowledge
- Strong experience delivering district energy/heat network projects, including low‑carbon heat technologies.
- Proven experience across full project lifecycle management, commercial and financial management (budgeting and forecasting), and working within complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
- Solid understanding of health & safety legislation, CDM Regulations, heat network regulations, standards, industry best practice, and contract management principles.

- Strong commercial and financial acumen.
- Proven ability to plan, manage, and deliver projects using tools such as Microsoft Project.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong analytical thinking, risk management, and problem‑solving skills.
- High attention to detail with a focus on quality and performance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Continuous improvement mindset, with a focus on driving best practice and efficiency.
