Underwriting Transformation Director – Contract

Mostly remote but some travel to offices

Rate: £700pd – £900pd Outside IR35

A leading insurer is seeking an experienced Underwriting Transformation Director to lead a high-impact modernisation programme. This role will drive the shift from manual, judgement-led underwriting to a data-driven, digitally enabled model, delivering rapid performance improvement and long-term capability build.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct rapid diagnostic and define a target underwriting operating model
• Deliver a focused transformation roadmap with measurable outcomes
• Standardise and digitise underwriting processes, rules and decision frameworks
• Improve data, analytics and automation to enhance underwriting decisions
• Strengthen governance, controls, authority and referral frameworks
• Enhance workflow efficiency, case handling and turnaround times
• Align underwriting with pricing, claims and portfolio management

About you

• Proven leader of large-scale underwriting transformation programmes
• Strong experience delivering manual-to-digital change (automation, data, rules)
• Deep understanding of underwriting performance, risk selection and governance
• Executive stakeholder management and a hands‑on delivery mindset
