Chief Medical Officer
As the Trust’s principal medical advisor to the Chief Executive and Board, you will provide leadership to drive high‑quality, safe and sustainable care across Gloucestershire and the wider Integrated Care System. You will work alongside the Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Operating Officer as part of the executive triumvirate, playing a key role in delivering our strategy, improving operational performance and providing clinical leadership.
Responsibilities
- Lead improvements in quality, safety and governance, operational performance, productivity and workforce redesign.
- Drive clinical engagement, digital transformation, research and innovation.
- Shape new models of care that improve patient pathways, support the workforce and deliver the NHS 10‑Year Plan.
- Provide executive leadership for clinical quality, patient safety, clinical effectiveness and governance across the Trust, ensuring the highest standards of care, assurance and continuous improvement.
- Act as the professional lead for medical, dental and scientific staff, driving workforce transformation, clinical engagement, education, training and research.
- Support financial sustainability through clinically led productivity and improvement programmes, aligning quality, operational and financial performance.
- Provide clinical leadership for urgent and emergency care, elective recovery, patient flow and clinical productivity to meet quality, performance and financial expectations.
- Lead the Trust’s clinical strategy, supporting the delivery of new models of care and strengthening relationships with system partners in line with the NHS Long Term Plan.

- Credibility, influence and strategic vision to lead through complexity and deliver lasting change.
