Patient Pathway Coordinator – Paediatrics

An exciting 9‑month opportunity to facilitate the smooth running of the patient journey in paediatrics. Your role will revolve around ensuring coordinated and streamlined administrative processes that focus on the patient and their individual needs.
You will provide administrative support to all clinical staff within the area, including consultants, nurse specialists and junior doctors. Duties include managing and coordinating their diaries, cancelling and reinstating clinics in line with planned and unplanned leave, and ensuring compliance with contractual access targets such as the 18‑week Referral to Treatment target.
You will also support the clinical team, Service Manager and other divisional managers to deliver safe and effective services. This includes maintaining a consistent and effective administration service at all times and providing cross‑cover for other Patient Pathway Coordinators.
Typing skills are required for reviewing, amending and finalising letters on DICT 3. Good telephone communication skills are essential for dealing with patients, doctors, nursing and midwifery teams and outside agencies.
Main duties of the job
- Co‑ordinate and streamline administrative processes for paediatrics patients.
- Provide administrative support to consultants, nurse specialists and junior doctors.
- Manage diaries, including cancellation and reinstating of clinics.
- Ensure compliance with access targets (e.g., 18‑week RTT).
- Support the clinical team, Service Manager and divisional managers in delivering safe services.
- Maintain an effective administration service and provide cross‑cover for other coordinators.
- Review, amend and finalise letters on DICT 3.
- Communicate effectively with patients, doctors, nursing and midwifery teams and external agencies.
Qualifications
- GCSE Maths & English Grade C or above.
Knowledge and Experience
- Experience in an administrative healthcare setting.
- Understanding and knowledge of key access targets (e.g., 18‑week RTT).
- Understanding of key challenges facing the healthcare economy.
Communication
- Demonstrates strong, empathetic patient manner and communication skills.
- ECDL or equivalent experience with Office Packages.
