Job Overview
To manage and support the provision and maintenance of NHS Estates buildings, mechanical and specialist services, plant and equipment to ensure a safe and suitable environment for the care of patients, visitors, and staff.
- Provide technical and specialist advice to managers and staff in mechanical systems and disciplines.
- Specify and manage all mechanical services, systems and contracts across multiple sites.
- Travel between Trust sites as required.
Main Duties
- Provide evidence‑based, efficient, cost‑effective and robust mechanical and specialist engineering contracts ensuring compliance with statutory instruments, Department of Health guidance and industry best practice.
- Ensure all hospital mechanical engineering systems are maintained in a safe condition and fit for purpose.
- Manage a team; respond to Ulysses reports for water and mechanical issues; conduct asset management; complete CAFM duties; issue permits; approve RAMS; obtain and review quotes; perform decontamination and mechanical AP duties; lead team talks; provide reports to Senior Manager; review risk assessments and resolve issues.

Qualifications and Professional Development
- Good standard of general education plus a recognised diploma level (HNC/HND) in Building Services/Mechanical Engineering/Construction discipline or equivalent.
- Degree/HND in Building Services/Mechanical Engineering/Construction discipline or equivalent experience.
- Specialist knowledge through postgraduate courses/diplomas/Master qualification in building/construction/estates related discipline.
- Completion of a structured training programme in engineering discipline for a minimum of five years.
- Full current driving licence.
- Trained in Health & Safety (NEBOSH, IOSH, First Aid etc.).
- Member of relevant healthcare or engineering institutes (IHEEM, HEFMA, CIBSE, IET, CIOB etc.).
- Experience across several of the HTM’s acting as an Authorised Person (AP).
Knowledge, Experience and Technical Skills
- Managing engineering building services, operational maintenance and repair services.
- Operational budget management.
- Managing contractors and specifying and managing engineering contracts.
- Extensive knowledge of engineering systems within complex organisations and environments.
- Developing and applying a safe system of work.
- Estates Management/Project Management, concurrent management of multiple projects and services.
- Knowledge of HTM’s, HBN’s and Estates specific legislation.
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
- Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office, BMS and CAFM systems.
- Effective multi‑disciplinary teamwork.
- Highly organised and able to manage a complex workload.
- Apply knowledge, experience and judgement for safe operation and maintenance of specific systems/equipment.
- Plan, organise and coordinate unsupervised routine and complex maintenance with contractors.
- Similar role experience.
- Experience with a quality management system (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Substantial specialist experience in a multi‑site health care engineering environment.

Working Hours and Leave
Hours: 08:00 – 16:00 Monday to Friday.
Annual leave: 27 days plus public holidays.
Overtime may be required.
