Job Title: Operations Support Assistant

Location: Force Cancer Centre, Barrack Road, EX2 5DW

Hours: 15 hours per week, Mondays are mandatory 8.30am – 4.30pm, then either a Thursday or a Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm

Role type: Temporary until 31/12/2026 with possibility of extension

Role details

FORCE is an independent cancer charity that was set up in 1987 to offer support to anyone local who has been affected by cancer. This is an exciting, demanding and rewarding role where the postholder will work as part of the operational support team that supports bookings and appointments for cancer patients and their families in the whole range of our support services.

Duties

  • Supporting and booking appointments for cancer patients and their families
  • Prioritise and make sound decisions while working under pressure
  • Communicating with a wide variety of individuals with a work context
  • Dealing with emotionally difficult situations
  • Use analytical skills and ability to solve problems
  • Prioritise own workload effectively and respond to changing demand, to achieve agreed results within a set timescale
  • Using software programmes including MS Office
  • Liaise and communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals – staff, volunteers, clients, healthcare professionals
  • Associated administrative tasks

Qualifications

This role may require you to show evidence of vocational level 3 qualification or at least 2 years relevant experience.

Training & Development

  1. An in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working within the NHS
  2. Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively complete your role to the highest standard at all times
  3. A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation

Skills and Experience

  • Competent with Microsoft office programmes, particularly Excel
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Ability to use online booking portals
  • Email inbox management skills
  • Strong empathetic and listening skills
