Job overview

Integrated Therapy Assistant (ITA) to join the integrated Stroke therapy team at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.

As a key member of the integrated Stroke therapy team, you will support delivery of high‑quality, patient‑centred care and rehabilitation for patients admitted to the ‘Acute and Continuing Stroke Care Unit’. Working primarily in the acute and rehabilitation wards, you will work under the supervision of qualified Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists.

You will carry out delegated therapy interventions, monitor and record patient progress, assist with functional assessments, and maintain therapy areas and equipment to a high standard.

Additional duties include supporting data collection, patient documentation and administrative tasks necessary for efficient service delivery.

Main duties of the job

  • Carry out a range of clinical interventions as allocated by a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist.
  • Provide flexible, client‑centred interventions to facilitate discharge into the community setting.
  • Deliver rehabilitation programmes, as planned by qualified therapists, in collaboration with clients and their significant others.
  • Support and progress the rehabilitation programme on the unit to maximise independence and facilitate discharge.
  • Assess for and issue specific equipment to facilitate activities of daily living.
  • Undertake non‑clinical tasks to support the therapy service without direct supervision.

Working for our organisation

The integrated stroke therapy team works collaboratively with doctors, nurses, speech and language therapists, dietitians, orthoptists, and orthotists. The unit operates a seven‑day service, with core hours Monday‑Friday 08:00‑16:00 and limited weekend coverage.

Qualifications

  • Evidence of recent appropriate study, development or application in the work environment.
  • Working toward or completed an NVQ Level III or Health & Social Care qualification.

Experience

  • Previous or current employment in health, social care or vocational rehabilitation settings.
  • Experience as an Occupational Therapy assistant, Physiotherapy assistant, Speech and Language assistant, Dietetic assistant, Rehab assistant or Healthcare assistant.
