Machine Operator Responsibilities
- Operate production equipment safely and effectively to meet the production plan.
- Carry out autonomous maintenance such as cleaning, lubrication, and inspection.
- Follow start‑up and shut‑down procedures, ensuring equipment and area are clean and safe.
- Perform changeovers, washouts, and basic issue resolution to maintain quality standards.
- Maintain continuous supply of packaging and raw materials from local storage.
- Record accurate hand‑over activities and shift events (cases, rejects, etc.).
- Identify and report safety and environmental hazards; raise SHE occurrences via tags, near‑miss forms, accident reports.
- Monitor quality against set standards, report and raise quality non‑conformances.
- Support continuous improvement by collecting data, monitoring measures, and taking further action as required.
- Apply problem‑solving techniques to eliminate recurrence of issues within skill set.
- Work collaboratively with team members, coordinate production activities, and share knowledge.
- Operate basic computer interfaces to record quality data, raise tags, and perform transactional tasks.
Machine Operator Qualifications
- High‑school education with competencies in reading, comprehension, writing, and mathematics.
- Basic mechanical awareness of factory automation principles.
- Strong communication skills for data recording, machine‑performance analysis, and teamwork.
- Physical capability to lift loads within risk assessment limits, perform hand‑eye coordination tasks, and work up to 12‑hour shifts including nights.
- Proficiency in machine data and control systems for material movement, losses, and quality.
- Prior experience as a machine operator in a fast‑moving consumer goods (FMCG) environment.
- Willingness to progress onto the Unilever Technical Operator Curriculum, demonstrating mechanical aptitude.
