Responsibilities
- Lead within the group and collaborate with internal and external teams that support data centres.
- Understand how underlying design decisions impact building and campus level layouts.
- Work with internal teams to understand user requirements.
- Participate in site selection reviews.
- Manage design consultancy firms to create, review and release data centre designs.
- Manage change, versioning and configuration control.
- Work with local utilities to define site utility requirements.
- Define and approve project scopes, RFPs and RFIs.
- Work with local Agencies Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to ensure compliance with city/county requirements and building codes.
- Work with commissioning teams to validate installation, operation, and performance of systems.
- Manage concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
- Travel for site review and conduct engineering evaluations, audits, and site launches.
- Review and approve equipment submittals.
- Work with internal teams to trouble‑shoot problems and conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Action (CA) for design‑related problems.
- Define project scopes and provide support during construction phases.
- Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical equipment.
- Provide technical support for information requests during construction phases.
- Be a positive, creative, and out‑of‑the‑box solutions provider.
- Drive innovation, design, and leadership of design consultants for new and existing AWS regions, delivering designs from concept to permit and construction documents.
- Directly support construction and be involved from site selection through commissioning and turnover.
- Serve as a subject‑matter expert in mechanical design for data centres.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of critical data centre mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience in data centre design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance.
- Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission‑critical facilities, including data centres, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data centre equipment and facilities.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Professional Engineering, or an equivalent experience; Architectural License preferred.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
