Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced Backend Engineer with a strong backend focus to join our Business Pricing team. This role offers an opportunity to have a massive impact by helping a growing number of businesses globally use Wise to meet their needs. You will lead a team of skilled engineers and collaborate daily with product managers, data analysts, and designers to improve pricing plans, enhance customer experience, and build scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of backend engineers to build and evolve pricing plan features.
  • Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and designers to refine pricing models.
  • Write testable code following best coding practices, engage in code reviews, and provide feedback.
  • Architect and maintain internal systems for integrated pricing and analytics using Java/Kotlin, Spring, relational databases, Kafka, and other JVM-based tools.
  • Own projects end‑to‑end, driving them to meet business goals.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture and continuous improvement processes.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Java or Kotlin (or other JVM based language).
  • Strong experience with Spring framework, relational databases, distributed and concurrent systems (Kafka).
  • Collaborative mindset; working daily with cross‑functional teams.
  • Experience writing unit and integration tests.
  • Commitment to best coding practices and code reviews.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Empathy for customer experience and data‑driven decision making.
  • Ability to work independently, taking ownership of customer problems.

What the first six months will look like

  • Onboard and understand the team, squad, and guild vision.
  • Learn Fintech domain knowledge and Wise tech culture.
  • Fully develop and ship new features from planning to release, monitoring their adoption.
  • Participate in quarterly planning and propose ideas to advance product.
