Job Description:

The Dermatology Outpatients department is looking for an enthusiastic and competent Health Care Assistant to join our growing team based at New Cross Hospital, supporting Mohs surgery.

The post holder will work well within a high performing team, complementing the exceptional care delivered to patients undergoing surgery for treatment of skin cancer.

Responsibilities

  • Provide essential support to the nursing and medical teams during clinics, ensuring clinical areas are prepared, organised and running efficiently.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment.
  • Assist with running dermatology clinics, ensuring a consistent flow of patients.
  • Chaperone consultants and nurses when needed.
  • Assist in minor surgery, including small procedures and working as part of a larger team for larger surgeries/Mohs.
  • Stock handling: weekly stocking up, stock checks, ordering of stock and participation in departmental audits.
  • Take calls from patients with queries and pass them on to relevant healthcare professionals.
  • Work under the indirect supervision of registered nurses and band 3 Health Care Assistants.

Shift flexibility is required, as shifts will be rostered according to the needs of the service and may vary from week to week. Surgery can occasionally run beyond scheduled hours, and the post holder will be expected to remain on duty until the final patient has been safely discharged.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work well within a high performing team.
  • Effective communication and customer‑service skills.
  • Adequate computer skills; training will be provided for various computer systems.
