Job Description:

Flexzo Teach | SENDCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)

We connect passionate SEND leaders directly with local educational provisions dedicated to high-quality, personalized support. Register today to join the talent pool for a rare founding SENDCO opportunity at a brand-new independent special school in Leeds.

This setting caters to a small, capped cohort of 25 pupils aged 11–16 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) – specifically those with autism, ADHD, and moderate learning difficulties. If you are a proactive, resilient leader who thrives in a calm, structured, relationship-led environment, this founding role offers the perfect space to shape, implement, and oversee the SEND strategy from the ground up.

Why Join Flexzo Teach?

  • Connect straight with school founders and directors – no agency middlemen or payroll deductions.
  • Establish your own daily or hourly rates with full transparency, or negotiate permanent/long-term terms directly.
  • Manage your application, communication, and interview scheduling transparently through our platform.
  • Lead the SEND strategy for a non-traditional, high-support setting that truly transforms young people’s lives.

About the Role & Responsibilities

As the founding SENDCO, you will work closely with the new Headteacher and Directors to drive quality, shape the school’s inclusive culture, and secure a strong first Ofsted outcome. Your daily autonomy will involve:

  • Designing, implementing, and overseeing adapted curriculum plans and the overarching SEND strategy for the provision.
  • Taking full ownership of managing and writing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and conducting rigorous annual reviews.
  • Supporting, developing, and inspiring a small, dedicated staff team of educators and HLTAs to deliver strong, relationship-led practices.
  • Ensuring the school meticulously meets all SEND Code of Practice requirements and independent school standards.
  • Working effectively alongside parents, external multi-agency support networks, and local authorities.

What You Need

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS is essential, alongside the National Award for SEN Co-ordination (NASENCO) qualification (or a willingness to complete it within the statutory timeframe).
  • A proven track record as a SENDCO or Assistant SENDCO, preferably within a specialist SEND setting, independent special school, or PRU.
  • Deep understanding of the SEND Code of Practice, with specific skills in supporting young people with autism, ADHD, and moderate learning difficulties.
  • The ability to thrive in a brand-new, founding environment where you have the vision to design robust SEND processes alongside an already established staff team.
  • A valid right to work in the UK and an Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to undergo safer recruitment screening).

How It Works

  1. Upload your CV to the Flexzo Teach platform.
  2. Your profile will be delivered straight to the Leeds school’s decision-makers for upcoming term starts and strategic consultations.
  3. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted directly by the school directors for interviews.

Be part of a more flexible, direct, and transparent way of leading in education.
