The Opportunity

An established and highly respected main contractor is seeking an Assistant Estimator to join its growing pre‑construction team in Reading. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in the preparation of multi‑million‑pound tenders across a diverse portfolio including commercial, education, and student accommodation projects.

Working closely with an experienced Senior Estimator, you will gain hands‑on exposure to the full tendering process, contributing to high‑quality bids and developing your technical and commercial expertise within a supportive and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation and submission of competitive tenders for projects across multiple sectors
• Analyse drawings, specifications, and tender documentation
• Support the measurement and take‑off process
• Obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations
• Help build up cost plans and pricing documents
• Assist in identifying risks, opportunities, and value engineering options
• Collaborate with internal teams including planning, design, and commercial departments
• Support bid submissions and documentation preparation

Requirements

• Previous experience in an estimating or construction‑related role (including placements or internships)
• Understanding of construction methods and materials
• Strong numerical and analytical skills with high attention to detail
• Good communication skills and ability to work within a team
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with estimating software is advantageous
• Relevant qualification in Construction, Quantity Surveying, or similar (preferred but not essential)
