Assistant Director of Compliance and Building Safety

Location: National (Hybrid, based at your nearest office: Bradford, Burnley, Camberley, Peterborough, Stockton)

Salary: Circa £90k per annum

Permanent, 35 hours per week

This role will lead compliance and building safety across a national portfolio, ensuring regulatory obligations are met and exceeding customer safety expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead asset compliance and building safety across gas, electrical, fire, asbestos, legionella, lifts, and more.
  • Maintain 100% compliance through robust systems, data (the “golden thread”), and performance monitoring.
  • Drive a zero‑tolerance culture for health and safety risks.
  • Oversee procurement and contract management, delivering strong performance and value for money.
  • Act as key contact with the Building Safety Regulator.
  • Develop KPIs and early warning indicators to manage and improve performance.
  • Lead high‑performing teams and supply chains, embedding accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Manage budgets and ensure efficient, cost‑effective delivery.
  • Support delivery of the Asset Management Strategy and long‑term investment plans.

About you

  • CIH Level 5 (or equivalent, with CIH top‑ups) or willingness to work towards.
  • Extensive experience in construction or a related field, with a strong track record managing compliance and safety across large property portfolios.
  • Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop high‑performing teams.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills.
  • In‑depth knowledge of compliance and health‑&‑safety regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing substantial budgets and delivering value through effective procurement.
  • Excellent negotiation, decision‑making, and communication skills, and ability to navigate complex situations and build stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong IT literacy, including MS Office and asset‑management systems.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, as required.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use.
