ICT Cloud Officer

Grade 8, £34,434 – £39,152 (as of April 2025 pay band figures).

The Cheshire West and Chester Council Digital, Data and Technology (DDAT) department is looking for an ICT Cloud Officer to support the deployment, management and optimisation of the Council’s cloud infrastructure, ensuring secure and reliable cloud solutions that meet operational needs.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the deployment, configuration, and ongoing administration of cloud-based solutions (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), ensuring alignment with Council requirements and standards.
  • Monitor and maintain cloud infrastructure, including performance optimisation, troubleshooting, patching, upgrades, and security configuration to ensure reliability and efficiency.
  • Work collaboratively with IT Cloud Engineers to resolve infrastructure issues and support the automation of cloud environments using scripts and deployment tools.
  • Provide technical support to end users and services, resolving cloud‑related queries and maintaining accurate documentation of configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of cloud security policies and evaluate new technologies, ensuring compliance with data protection legislation and compatibility with existing systems.
  • Administer and optimise SQL databases across cloud and hybrid environments, including backup, recovery and disaster recovery planning to ensure high availability, security and business continuity.

Qualifications

You will bring a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience, alongside a strong understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud. You will have experience supporting cloud environments, including monitoring performance, maintaining configurations and resolving technical issues to ensure secure and reliable services. A good understanding of cloud security principles and data protection best practice is essential, with the ability to support secure configurations and contribute to the ongoing improvement of controls.

You will also have experience of working with cloud infrastructure and supporting automation using scripting tools such as PowerShell or Bash, with the confidence to contribute to infrastructure improvements and migration activity. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills are key, supported by a methodical approach to troubleshooting in a cloud environment.

You will be an effective communicator, able to explain technical information clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences and build positive working relationships across teams and stakeholders. Well organized and proactive, you will be able to manage competing priorities, maintain accurate documentation, and contribute to continuous improvement activity. A self‑motivated approach is important, with a commitment to developing your knowledge of cloud technologies and emerging best practice. Relevant certifications such as Azure Fundamentals, AWS Cloud Practitioner or ITIL are desirable.
