Great Bear (Part of the Culina Group) delivers distribution services to FMCG clients, focusing on customer‑centric service delivered through a site‑level empowered culture.
We’re looking for a Depot Manager to oversee all site customer contracts for a high‑throughput well known brand. The role is heavily customer facing and requires an approachable attitude with strong customer service experience. The manager will set strategies, business plans and KPI targets to achieve business performance and growth.
As Depot Manager you will have full Health and Safety and budget accountability for the site. You will manage a team of over 100 staff and be responsible for driving the depot to its best performance.
This is a full‑time permanent role based at our Sherburn site, working Monday to Friday, 08.00‑16.00.
Key Duties of a Depot Manager
- Responsible for all Great Bear operational activities on site
- Assume responsibility for managing Health & Safety, personnel issues and facilities across the site in conjunction with the customer
- Ensure the highest levels of quality and compliance are maintained and that the site operates to the Audit standard required
- Set accurate financial targets, meet them and improve financial performance through effective cost management
- Engage with customers and their representatives, ensuring that their operational input is considered and the relationship is managed effectively
- Strive for continuous improvement and suggest new innovative ways of working which could exceed the company’s expectations and contractual terms
- Ensure all day‑to‑day operational requirements consistently meet the customers’ expectations
- Exceed customer key performance measures, hold regular customer reviews and manage and develop client relationships
- Prepare customer annual budgets and work within those boundaries while delivering improved financial performance
- Develop and implement new initiatives and projects with the customer
- Manage and develop the existing management teams and employee relations
- Ensure operator licence compliance and adherence
Qualifications
- A demonstrable track record in managing high volume, high service‑driven transport operations
- Track record of working closely with customers and ability to illustrate examples of how relationships have improved
- Ability to think and work both strategically and operationally
- Successful leader of teams, with positive personal qualities and attributes
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to converse at all levels
- Experience of open‑book & closed‑book contracts, with strong numerical and commercial skills
- National CPC desirable
