Trust Junior Doctor (SHO) in Acute Medicine

Northwick Park Hospital is a major acute centre on the border of Brent and Harrow, offering a new 32‑bed Acute Medical Unit and a range of specialist services. We are looking for enthusiastic doctors to join our Acute Medicine team from February 2024.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will rotate through the Acute Medical Unit, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), Medical High Dependency Unit (HDU) and the emergency department medical take. Rotas include standard days, twilights, long days, nights and weekends. The role offers full educational and clinical supervision, enrolment on the Royal College of Physicians e‑portfolio and access to study leave, PACES teaching, SHO procedures courses and simulation training.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver regular clinical assessment and management of all patients in conjunction with consultants and senior registrars.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient history, examination, clinical progress and investigation results.
  • Audit practice and standards of care on a day‑to‑day basis.
  • Communicate effectively with nursing, physiotherapy and other multidisciplinary teams, acting as a primary point of contact for referrals.
  • Support staff and provide expertise to Critical Care Outreach and other units across the hospital.

Contract

Permanent; fixed‑term contracts will also be considered.

Qualification

  • GMC Registration
  • MBBS or equivalent

Knowledge & Experience

  • Minimum 12 months medical experience in the UK
  • Sound general medical knowledge
  • At least one year’s experience at F1 level or above, or equivalent (UK or elsewhere)
  • Solid grounding in clinical medicine and at least one previous general medicine or intensive care post at post‑FY1 level
  • Evidence of involvement in audit and/or presentations
