Responsibilities
- Collect clinical, domestic, offensive, and linen waste from ward areas and transport to the waste compound.
- Segregate waste into the correct streams in line with environmental and healthcare regulations.
- Operate trust electric vehicles and bulk waste compaction machines.
- Ensure all aspects of the Waste Permit Conditions are adhered to.
- Place specific categories of waste in the appropriate skip for off‑site disposal or recycling.
- Clean bulk waste storage areas and waste containers on the specified schedule.
- Carry out external environmental duties, such as litter collection and bin emptying.
- Inspect all mobile equipment used.
- Follow the incident reporting procedure for accidents that occur during environmental activities.
- Perform any other duties appropriate to the role as delegated.
Essential Qualifications
- Physically fit and able to handle heavy loads routinely.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining high standards.
- Previous experience in waste management or a similar role (desirable but not essential).
- GCSE or equivalent qualification.
- Full UK driver’s licence.
- Electric Vehicle Driver Licence or completion of an electric vehicle training course.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Pass a DBS and Barring Service check.
Desirable Qualifications
- Environmental qualification.
- Experience in waste management or handling activities.
- Experience operating electric vehicles or other plant.
- Willingness to learn and adapt.
- Flexibility in working hours.
