Job Description:

Responsibilities

  1. Collect clinical, domestic, offensive, and linen waste from ward areas and transport to the waste compound.
  2. Segregate waste into the correct streams in line with environmental and healthcare regulations.
  3. Operate trust electric vehicles and bulk waste compaction machines.
  4. Ensure all aspects of the Waste Permit Conditions are adhered to.
  5. Place specific categories of waste in the appropriate skip for off‑site disposal or recycling.
  6. Clean bulk waste storage areas and waste containers on the specified schedule.
  7. Carry out external environmental duties, such as litter collection and bin emptying.
  8. Inspect all mobile equipment used.
  9. Follow the incident reporting procedure for accidents that occur during environmental activities.
  10. Perform any other duties appropriate to the role as delegated.

Essential Qualifications

  • Physically fit and able to handle heavy loads routinely.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining high standards.
  • Previous experience in waste management or a similar role (desirable but not essential).
  • GCSE or equivalent qualification.
  • Full UK driver’s licence.
  • Electric Vehicle Driver Licence or completion of an electric vehicle training course.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Pass a DBS and Barring Service check.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Environmental qualification.
  • Experience in waste management or handling activities.
  • Experience operating electric vehicles or other plant.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Flexibility in working hours.
