Green Spaces Team Leader
Warwick District Council is seeking a skilled, motivated and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about nature, conservation, ecology, woodland/tree management and green spaces to join the Green Spaces Team.
About the role
Lead on the Fields in Trust Project and author Management Plans for premier parks, working to secure Green Flag accreditation. Participate in biodiversity initiatives, woodland management, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including community groups, partner organisations, and other council service areas.
Main Responsibilities
- Submit applications for Fields in Trust designation.
- Write and implement Parks Management Plans aimed at achieving Green Flag accreditation.
- Assist on woodland management policy and oversee the development and maintenance of parks and open spaces throughout the district.
- Manage ecological activities such as floral bedding, tree advice, play areas, and local nature reserves.
- Coordinate with external contractors and partners to deliver high‑quality maintenance and conservation services.
- Provide written and verbal reports to senior management and stakeholders.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree level qualification or equivalent experience in environment, landscape, horticulture, woodland management, ecology, conservation, planning or a related subject.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of contract management, project management, and maintenance of formal parks and open spaces.
- Experience working with a range of partners, including residents, volunteers, local groups, and other bodies.
- Extensive knowledge of integrating ecological and formal grounds maintenance to increase biodiversity.
- Experience of budget management and payment to external contractors.
- Knowledge of services provided by other Service Areas in the Council, partner organisations and other agencies.
- Demonstrable experience of change management and service improvement.
- Strong ability to present both written and verbal reports.
- Excellent organisational skills, able to manage and prioritise workload and handle multiple and potentially conflicting priorities.
- Customer focused and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full driving licence with access to a vehicle for duties across the district.
Hours & Contract type
Fixed Term / Secondment – 2 years. The role is primarily based from home but requires attendance at offices or sites within Warwick District as needed; travel expenses will be reimbursed.
