Overview
Looking for a role that will have a meaningful impact in Data Governance? We are looking for an individual to lead the day‑to‑day delivery and improvement of reference data management across Markel International.
Key Responsibilities
Hands‑On Reference Data Delivery:
- Perform and lead reference data activities, including processing data requests such as class codes, mappings, and hierarchies.
- Investigate and resolve data issues.
- Maintain reference data structures in systems such as Ataccama RDM.
- Ensure reference data outputs are accurate, consistent, and complete.
- Lead SLA priorities to deliver requests and resolve issues on time.
Reference Data Process Ownership:
- Support management and continuous improvement of the reference data process.
- Identify inefficiencies and propose improvements to data quality, process efficiency, and user experience.
- Find opportunities for growing the scope of Reference Data Management.
Data Governance Enablement:
- Support implementation of the Data Governance framework in line with the International Data Policy.
- Contribute to data domain definitions, ownership and stewardship models, governance standards and processes, and embed governance principles into reference data processes.
Data Governance Awareness & Content Development:
- Produce and maintain governance documentation and artefacts, including process documentation, governance models and frameworks, and training and user guidance.
- Support the Head of Data Governance in driving awareness and adoption.
Governance Coordination:
- Support monthly governance forums and working groups.
- Work with Data Owners, Stewards and SMEs to support the adoption of governance practices, provide guidance on reference data processes, and act as a trusted support function.
Qualifications & Must‑Has
- Experience in hands‑on data management, reference data or data operations.
- Understanding of Data Governance and Data Quality principles.
- Strong analytical skills to investigate and resolve data issues.
- Experience in process‑ and deadline‑focused environments.
- Good communication skills and the ability to use a range of communication methods and channels effectively.
- Experience with data tools/platforms such as Ataccama or similar (desirable).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, particularly PowerPoint, to create clear documentation, presentations and training materials.
- Ability to work effectively across business and technology.
- Insurance or financial services experience preferred.
