Job Purpose

Working within a regulated engineering environment, you will play a key role in ensuring engineering decisions are governed effectively, risks are managed appropriately, and compliance obligations are met. You will support the development and implementation of governance frameworks, undertake assurance activities, and collaborate with stakeholders across the business to drive continuous improvement in engineering governance and control effectiveness. This role focuses on how engineering activities are governed, controlled and assured, rather than detailed technical design.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop, implement and continuously improve engineering governance frameworks, policies, procedures and control arrangements.
  • Support the effective operation of engineering governance processes, decision gates, approval pathways and technical authority arrangements.
  • Ensure engineering decisions, assumptions, concessions and derogations are appropriately documented, governed and supported by robust evidence.
  • Deliver and contribute to risk‑based audit, assurance and compliance activities to assess the effectiveness of governance arrangements.
  • Analyse governance, assurance and audit findings to identify trends, risks, control weaknesses and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the development and maintenance of governance, risk and control frameworks that strengthen engineering decision‑making and compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, asset management, safety, quality, risk and assurance teams to resolve governance issues and embed best practice.
  • Maintain governance documentation, reporting and records, ensuring information is accurate, accessible and supports effective decision traceability.
  • Provide advice and guidance on governance requirements, policies, procedures and compliance obligations.
  • Support investigations into governance or process effectiveness and coordinate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Identify and deliver continuous improvement initiatives that simplify, strengthen and enhance governance arrangements across the business.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and influence positive governance outcomes across multiple disciplines and functions.

About You

You will have experience within an engineering, asset management, infrastructure, utilities or other regulated environment, alongside a strong understanding of governance, assurance, risk management and compliance.

You’ll Also Bring

  • Experience working with engineering governance frameworks, policies, procedures, controls or technical authority arrangements.
  • Knowledge of engineering assurance, audit, compliance, risk management or quality management processes.
  • Strong understanding of engineering decision‑making, governance controls and the importance of decision traceability.
  • Experience interpreting governance requirements and translating them into practical business processes and solutions.
  • The ability to identify governance risks, analyse complex information and recommend improvements.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and influence decisions where appropriate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly to a range of audiences.
  • Experience working with management systems, governance frameworks and control environments within regulated industries.
  • Good analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, reporting and assurance findings to drive improvement.
  • A collaborative approach and a passion for improving governance, compliance and organisational effectiveness.

What You’ll Get

A competitive salary between £55,000 - £75,000 – dependent on capability. Appointment will be made at Level 7 or Level 8 depending on experience, skills and demonstrated capability. In addition to your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where the company will double match your contribution up to 12% of your salary. You will also have access to a range of flexible benefits, including a share incentive plan, salary‑sacrifice car and technology schemes, employee assistance lines and matched charity giving.
