Main duties of the job

As Clinical Nurse Manager, you will provide operational, professional and clinical leadership to the nursing team across our three Practice sites. You will lead a team of Team Lead Nurses, Practice Nurses and Healthcare Assistants, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and patient centred nursing services.

You will oversee the day to day management of the nursing team, including workforce planning, recruitment, induction, appraisal, performance management and staff development. Working closely with the Practice Manager and GP Partners, you will lead Infection Prevention and Control, support clinical governance, drive Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) performance and play a key role in maintaining CQC readiness.

Alongside your management responsibilities, you will maintain regular clinical sessions and support the delivery of long term condition management, treatment room services, immunisation programmes and preventative healthcare.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Nurse Manager

The Clinical Nurse Manager will provide operational, professional and clinical leadership to the nursing team across Park Medical Practice, working closely with the Practice Manager and GP Partners to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and patient centred nursing services across our three Practice sites.

This is a leadership role combining approximately one day per week of clinical practice with management responsibilities, including line management, workforce development, clinical governance and service improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, support and develop a nursing team comprising 2 Team Lead Nurses, 4 Practice Nurses and 2 Healthcare Assistants.
  • Provide day to day operational management of the nursing team, including recruitment, induction, probation, appraisal, performance management, sickness management and staff development.
  • Maintain clinical competence through regular clinical sessions, delivering and supporting long term condition management, treatment room services, cervical screening, immunisations, wound care, health promotion and preventative healthcare.
  • Lead the Practice’s Infection Prevention and Control programme, ensuring compliance with national guidance and completion of annual audits.
  • Drive Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) performance through effective planning, monitoring, recall systems and data quality.
  • Lead the nursing contribution towards Care Quality Commission (CQC) readiness, maintaining governance systems, supporting audits and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Maintain and review nursing policies, Standard Operating Procedures, Patient Group Directions and Patient Specific Directions.
  • Oversee treatment room standards, vaccine ordering, cold chain compliance, emergency medicines, clinical equipment servicing and stock management.
  • Lead clinical audits, support quality improvement projects and ensure learning from Significant Events and complaints is embedded into practice.
  • Work collaboratively with GP Partners, the Practice Manager and the wider multidisciplinary team to support service development and improve patient outcomes.

About You

We are looking for an experienced General Practice Nurse with proven leadership or management experience who is passionate about delivering high quality patient care and developing others. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, a strong understanding of clinical governance, CQC requirements and QOF, and the ability to lead a team through continuous improvement and change.

The successful candidate will be a visible and approachable leader who promotes professionalism, accountability and teamwork while maintaining high clinical standards across all areas of the nursing service.

Person Specification

Experience

  • Primary Care or General Practice nursing experience.
  • Experience of long term condition management.
  • Experience leading or supervising staff.
  • Experience managing a nursing team across multiple sites.
  • Experience of service improvement projects.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Teaching or mentorship qualification.
