Generator Controls Engineer
Location: Rochester, Kent (on-site). Salary: £50,000-£70,000.
Overview
We are partnering with a well-established generator manufacturing and power solutions business looking for a Generator Controls Engineer to join their growing engineering team. This role focuses on end-to-end system design, from development through to commissioning, within a highly technical and hands‑on environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop generator control systems, including PLC programming and HMI interfaces
- Configure and troubleshoot control panels, sensors, and associated electrical components
- Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to deliver integrated system solutions
- Develop and maintain technical documentation such as schematics and test procedures
- Conduct system testing, validation, and commissioning activities
- Diagnose and resolve control system and generator performance issues
- Support field service teams with technical expertise and troubleshooting
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations
- Contribute to continuous improvement of system performance and reliability
Experience Required
- Proven experience in control systems engineering within industrial or power generation environments
- Strong PLC programming experience (e.g., Allen‑Bradley, Siemens)
- Experience with HMI/SCADA systems and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, CANbus, Ethernet/IP)
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics and control panel design
- Experience with system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting
- Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non‑technical teams
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative engineering team
Bonus Skills

- NFPA/NEC/UL standards, field commissioning experience
