An exciting opportunity to join our busy team as a Decontamination Technician. The role involves working within the Decontamination Department to provide comprehensive decontamination and sterile services for surgical theatres, endoscopy, and other facilities.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Decontamination Department is responsible for the provision of decontamination and sterilisation services to surgical theatres, endoscopy, outpatient departments and wards/units of the Trust, together with GP’s and other community users. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly across Monday to Friday 7:30 to 19:00, including bank holidays, and may need to participate in on‑call services and the 7‑day rota.
- Cleaning and decontamination of Endoscopes and associated equipment used for several specialties and surgical instrumentation.
- Monitoring and validation of equipment used in the decontamination process.
- Handling bodily fluids and wearing personal protective equipment.
- Quality assurance, tracking and tracing, loan set processing, and stocking taking and ordering.
Person specification
Qualifications
- GCSE Maths & English at grade C or above.
- Educated to NVQ Level 3 in a relevant discipline or equivalent level of knowledge.
Experience
- Demonstrable experience working in a Decontamination Unit carrying out a wide range of day‑to‑day duties in a busy department.
Skills
- Approachable, adaptable and flexible towards the role and delivery.
