Middle Office Operations Specialist
The Role
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Middle Office Operations Specialist to support the accurate and efficient processing of post-trade operations across multiple asset classes, including Equities, Fixed Income, Derivatives and Metals.
Working within a fast-paced financial markets environment, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth execution of operational processes, resolving trade exceptions, maintaining robust controls, and identifying opportunities to improve workflows and operational efficiency.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with brokerage or financial markets operations experience who enjoys problem-solving, process improvement and taking ownership of operational activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Process trade bookings, settlements, cash movements, reconciliations, client account maintenance (including SSIs), P&L reporting and month-end activities.
- Investigate and resolve settlement breaks, operational exceptions and discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Liaise with counterparties, custodians and internal stakeholders to ensure the efficient resolution of operational issues.
- Analyse operational queries to identify root causes and recommend effective solutions.
- Escalate operational risks where appropriate and support timely issue resolution.
- Review existing processes to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce risk and strengthen operational controls.
- Support the implementation of process improvements and automation initiatives.
- Maintain accurate operational documentation and contribute to the development of best practice procedures.
- Assist with system enhancements and operational change projects as required.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience within brokerage, middle office or financial markets operations.
- Good understanding of the post-trade settlement lifecycle across global markets.
- Experience with conversions, realignments, stock borrow/lending or financing activities would be advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a logical approach to resolving issues.
- Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other operational systems.
Qualifications
- Degree educated or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- CISI Foundation qualification in UK Financial Regulation (or equivalent) is desirable.
- Additional industry qualifications, including CF30 registration, would be advantageous.
