PRINCIPAL MEDICAL WRITER

About the Role
An exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team with a strong track record of building long‑term strategic partnerships and delivering best‑in‑class medical education for a prominent client. The Principal Medical Writer is a key member of the Medical team.
Responsibilities
- Play an active role in building client strategy based on deep therapy‑area knowledge and high writing standards.
- Act as a scientific and strategic partner for clients.
- Collaborate with account management to build and advance client partnerships.
- Support the Executive Scientific Director/Scientific Director in building scientific strategy aligned with client commercial objectives.
- Integrate core editorial processes and best‑practice writing principles within project teams.
- Develop content autonomously against agreed briefs to the required standards.
- Serve as the key figure for scientific review ensuring factual accuracy, alignment to strategy, and regulatory compliance.
- Work efficiently across divisions and teams to deliver projects on time and on budget.
- Train, mentor others, and co‑create processes that improve efficiency.
- Champion excellent standards across all activities.
Essential Criteria
- Degree in a scientific, medical or life sciences field.
- Experience managing own time in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
- Experience working in an agile environment.
- Experience collaborating efficiently in a cross‑capability team.
- Experience writing for a variety of medical/scientific audiences.
- Proven ability to create high‑quality medical/scientific content.
- Experience delivering a wide variety of medical writing outputs.
- Experience in a healthcare communications agency environment.
- Confidence in being a therapy area expert.
- Confidence in contributing to medical/scientific discussions.
- Proven ability to build professional external partnerships through work.
- Experience reviewing colleagues’ medical writing.
- Experience coaching or mentoring others.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience creating content for digital/online and omnichannel outputs.
- Confidence in giving strategic counsel.
- Experience leading a high‑performing team.
- Experience managing projects, including resourcing and budgeting.
- Experience line‑management and development of other medical writers.
- Ability to delegate appropriately.
- Proven ability to build therapy‑area expertise quickly.
