Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker – Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Contract: Permanent (Full-time or Part-time). Hours: 37.5 hours per week, part time considered. Salary: £25,760 – £27,476 per annum (pro rata). Location: Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester. Closing date: 05/07/2026.

Job overview

As a Healthcare Support Worker you will support Registered Nurses and multidisciplinary teams, assisting with patient care and ensuring a high standard of service. This role is vital to the delivery of safe, compassionate care across all shifts, including long days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families and the team in both written and verbal form.
  • Assist in the planning, delivery and evaluation of patient care.
  • Support patients in daily activities and maintain a caring, professional environment.
  • Demonstrate commitment to high standards, teamwork and the Trust’s values.
  • Flexibly work shifts that include long days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Requirements

  • Minimum age 18 years.
  • Commitment to a minimum of 23 hours per week and the standard shift pattern.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication.
  • Positive, caring attitude with a can‑do approach.
  • Working knowledge of NHS and patient care processes.

Training & Qualifications

  • IT Literate.
  • Secondary education – GCSE grades 1–3 or D–G (or equivalent).
  • ESOL Level 2 or equivalent (if English not first language).
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Health / Health and Social Care or working towards an award.
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Health / Health and Social Care or working towards an award.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Demonstrated health or health‑and‑social care experience or equivalent skills.
  • Understanding of NHS or social care systems.
  • Previous NHS experience preferred.
