Role Overview
We’re Europe’s leading design, engineering, environment and regulatory consultancy and we’re now recruiting for a Wastewater/Urban Drainage Modeller to join our Water department in Edinburgh.
These roles can be worked flexibly, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times.
What does the role involve?
Working with Sweco will give you the opportunity to work on projects and schemes of all shapes and sizes. You will also learn from people who share a passion for working together with our customers to deliver technical excellence.
Working within our Urban Drainage Modelling Team you will support colleagues in delivering a programme of modelling work, developing a wide range of skills depending also on your background and interests, including hydraulic modelling, flood risk assessment, sustainable drainage, GIS, solution development, and schematic, outline and detailed design.
On the job training and support is provided by senior personnel who are respected experts in their fields. Sweco also offers approved training agreements with numerous professional institutions. Core Duties And Responsibilities

- Bringing together ideas and expertise from multi‑disciplinary teams
- Supporting strong ongoing client relationships

- Leading small projects under the supervision of senior staff
- Production of client‑facing documents and technical deliverables
- Preparing technical reports and other deliverables
- Work in a supervised environment to deliver project activities to budget and programme
- Data handling and analysis of large datasets
- Survey planning and supervision
- Client and stakeholder engagement and management
To Be Successful In This Role
- Previous water consultancy experience, some engineering design experience or hydraulic modelling experience is desirable.
- A degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography or a related discipline with significant engineering, hydraulics or GIS content.
- A strong interest in the water environment and an understanding of the issues associated to sustainability and climate change adaptation.
- Experience of GIS (e.g. ArcGIS or Mapinfo) is essential and hydraulic modelling software (e.g. Infoworks ICM) is desirable.
- A commitment to continuous professional development and becoming a chartered professional.
- Good problem‑solving/contingency planning skills with ability to find quick, innovative and practical solutions to problems.
- Excellent literacy, communication, analytical and numeracy skills.
