About the role

We are looking for a committed and compassionate Driver Attendant to join our Transport Services team. This is a rewarding role where you will provide safe, reliable transport and essential support to children, older people, and adults with physical, learning and/or mental health needs.

You will be responsible for transporting service users between their homes and various establishments, ensuring every journey is safe, dignified and supportive. The role goes beyond driving – you will provide practical and emotional support to passengers, particularly those with mobility difficulties, learning disabilities or behaviours that may challenge services.

You will also be responsible for:

  • Assisting passengers to and from vehicles and during journeys
  • Safely securing wheelchairs and specialist equipment
  • Carrying out daily vehicle checks and maintaining cleanliness
  • Monitoring passenger wellbeing and responding appropriately to incidents
  • Completing records and communicating with colleagues, carers and professionals
  • Supporting a flexible, responsive transport service

This is a 37-hour per week role on a split shift basis, working in a dynamic environment where flexibility is essential.

The Team

You will be part of a dedicated Transport Services team, working closely with drivers, passenger assistants, supervisors and colleagues across the wider council and partner organisations.

  • Reporting to: Transport Services Manager
  • No direct line management responsibility
  • Strong team ethos with a focus on collaboration and supporting each other
  • Regular interaction with service users, families, carers, schools, day centres and external agencies

Location

Based at Bradley Fold, delivering services across the borough and surrounding areas.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking individuals who are reliable, patient, and dedicated to delivering high standards of care and safety.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Full UK driving licence with D1 entitlement and at least 2 years’ driving experience
  • Experience driving minibuses and transporting passengers
  • Experience supporting people with learning disabilities and/or mobility difficulties
  • Knowledge of health and safety requirements and safe transport practices
  • Ability to assist passengers, including wheelchair users and those with additional needs
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with service users, carers and colleagues
  • A team-focused approach with a willingness to support service delivery
  • Flexible attitude to working hours and changing service needs

You will also need:

  • A clean driving licence
  • A satisfactory enhanced DBS check

Normal hours of work are 37 hours per week based around the usual business working week. Dependent on service requirements, you may be required to work on a rota basis.
