The Role
As a Manual Turner, you will be responsible for the manufacture, repair and refurbishment of precision‑engineered components, supporting the overhaul and maintenance of industrial equipment in a busy workshop environment in Hillington, Glasgow.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting and operating conventional manual centre lathes
- Manufacturing and refurbishing components to precise engineering tolerances
- Working from engineering drawings, technical specifications and sample components
- Machining a variety of materials including carbon steels, stainless steels and specialist alloys
- Carrying out repair and refurbishment work on worn or damaged components
- Inspecting finished work using precision measuring equipment to ensure quality standards are met
- Working closely with engineers and workshop personnel to determine suitable machining and repair methods
- Completing workshop documentation and inspection records accurately
- Supporting continuous improvement activities and maintaining excellent housekeeping standards
- Working safely and promoting a positive health and safety culture at all times
Required Qualifications
- Time‑served Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
- Proven experience operating manual centre lathes within an engineering, manufacturing or repair environment
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Experience machining components to tight tolerances
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high‑quality work
- Flexible and proactive approach to workshop activities
- Good problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently
- Strong commitment to health, safety and continuous improvement
