Role Description
This is a full‑time, on‑site Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machinist role based in Lostwithiel. The CNC Machinist will set up, program, and operate CNC machines to produce precision components according to technical drawings and specifications. Responsibilities include selecting appropriate tooling, performing machine offsets and adjustments, monitoring machining operations, and conducting in‑process inspections to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish. The role involves routine maintenance of machines, identifying and resolving machining issues, and collaborating with engineers and colleagues to improve processes and efficiencies. The CNC Machinist will also complete required documentation, follow ISO 9001:2015 procedures, and uphold all safety and housekeeping standards on the shop floor.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in machine operation and machinery handling, including set‑up, adjustment, and routine maintenance of CNC equipment.
- Proficiency in machining and milling, with experience working to tight tolerances and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
- Experience with quality control, including the use of measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, verniers, gauges) and adherence to ISO 9001:2015 procedures.
- Previous experience as a CNC machinist or similar role in a precision engineering environment.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings, CAD/CAM output, and work instructions.
- Strong attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, and commitment to producing high‑quality work safely and efficiently.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across production and engineering teams.
- Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in machining, mechanical engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
