Job Summary

Head of UX responsible for leading the design system, setting UX standards, scaling the design team, and driving an AI‑first organization across Kraken’s energy platform.

Responsibilities

  • Build and evolve Kraken’s design system into a single source of truth across all product lines.
  • Define what “great” UX means, setting standards for interaction, content, research, accessibility, and product storytelling.
  • Lead, level‑up, and inspire a global crew of designers, researchers, and design‑systems specialists, fostering a culture of critique and high performance.
  • Shape product bets and influence priorities with Product & Engineering, ensuring user needs drive decisions.
  • Design and govern an AI‑first organization: define cross‑functional responsibilities, drive design‑to‑code workflows, and identify boundaries between human‑led, AI‑assisted, and fully automated UX.
  • Extend research practices for AI‑driven experiences: evaluate model behaviour, user trust, and human‑AI collaboration patterns.
  • Deliver continuous discovery, triangulating qualitative and quantitative insights to drive evidence‑based product decisions.
  • Scale design ops, rituals, tooling, and playbooks to increase clarity without bureaucratic overhead.

Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years in UX/Product Design, including leading managers in a high‑growth SaaS or tech scale‑up.
  • Portfolio showing systems thinking, principled decisions, and business impact.
  • Experience owning a design system at scale (adoption, legacy migration, developer partnership, governance).
  • Familiarity with design‑to‑code and automated front‑end workflows.
  • Proficiency with AI tools in design and product development (prototyping, UI generation, research synthesis).
  • Experience designing AI‑powered products (conversational interfaces, copilots, agent‑based systems, workflow automation).
  • Deep understanding of human‑AI interaction design: trust, transparency, control.

Bonus

  • Experience in complex or regulated sectors (energy, fintech, government, healthcare).
  • Track record of evangelizing UX to executives, boards, and engineers.
  • Built design cultures that promote belonging, ambition, curiosity, and joy.
  • Global product experience, including localisation, cultural patterns, and accessibility beyond WCAG.

Salary (NYC)

Range: $190,000–$240,000 depending on experience and fit.
