Overview

Sataya is representing a distinguished wine estate and luxury hospitality property in the heart of the Cape Winelands. The estate is known for its high standard of guest experience, its blend of accommodation, food and beverage, and leisure offerings, and its position as one of the region’s most respected hospitality destinations.

We are seeking an experienced General Manager to take full accountability for hotel operations. This is a hands-on leadership role, requiring someone equally comfortable setting strategic direction as they are on the floor during peak periods. The property operates across multiple departments, including rooms, food and beverage, leisure, tour guiding and reservations, and the General Manager will need to lead this breadth of operation with confidence and consistency.

Given the region and guest profile, fluency in both Afrikaans and English is essential to this role, as is a strong command of rooms division operations and revenue management. This is a business where seasonal trading patterns matter, and the successful candidate will need a demonstrated ability to protect performance through quieter periods as well as peak season.

Key Responsibilities

1) Operational & Rooms Division Leadership

  • Take full accountability for the day-to-day operations of the hotel, with particular oversight of the rooms division and reservations function
  • Manage all operational departments, including front office, housekeeping, tour guiding, leisure services and human resources
  • Set and maintain operational standards across departments, ensuring consistency in guest-facing delivery

2) Revenue & Financial Management

  • Drive revenue management strategy across all seasons, with specific focus on optimising performance during low season
  • Manage budgets and ensure the property meets agreed financial targets
  • Monitor pricing, occupancy and yield, adjusting strategy in response to seasonal and market conditions

3) Guest Experience & Quality Standards

  • Maintain and monitor quality standards across all guest-facing areas
  • Oversee the effective resolution of guest feedback and concerns, managing expectations proactively
  • Champion a consistent, high standard of service excellence throughout the property

4) Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead the wider hotel team towards departmental and overall performance objectives
  • Drive training, development and ongoing performance management across the team
  • Build a team culture capable of confidently handling and resolving guest queries independently

5) Compliance & Risk

  • Ensure hygiene, health and safety compliance across the property
  • Ensure adherence to statutory requirements, internal policy and best-practice standards

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Fluent in Afrikaans and English essential; this is a firm requirement given the region and guest base
  • Strong, demonstrable background in rooms division management
  • Proven track record in revenue management, including clear examples of strategies used to optimise performance during low season
  • Minimum five years’ senior management experience within hospitality
  • Recognised hospitality qualification
  • Proven project management experience
  • Strong leadership ability, with experience motivating, training and developing high-performing teams
  • Sound analytical, organisational and communication skills, with the composure to manage conflict and operate effectively under pressure

Why Our Client

  • A well-established, highly regarded property with a strong reputation in the luxury hospitality market
  • A genuinely varied leadership remit, spanning rooms, food and beverage, leisure and guest experience
  • A business with clear seasonal trading patterns, offering scope to make a measurable commercial impact
  • A setting that combines the pace of a high-performing hospitality operation with the character of a working estate
  • The opportunity to lead a broad, capable team within a business that takes its standards seriously
