The role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 7 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist with an interest in Older People’s Rehabilitation to work alongside an established respected and experienced team. It is essential that you are educated to Diploma/Degree level in Occupational Therapy while being registered with HCPC and have significant postgraduate experience, including significant previous clinical experience in a relevant area.
This post involves a highly complex and varied caseload incorporating patient assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation and discharge planning. You will be clinically responsible for rotational staff, support workers, students, inducting, training and managing staff on a daily basis. You will be actively encouraged to develop through your four pillars of practice while participating in CPD, audit and research.
This post will be instrumental in designing and delivering the Occupational Therapy service within the Acute Older Peoples wards across the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and New Victoria sites.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
This is a full‑time, permanent post and may require the post holder to participate in seven‑day working or extended hours working.
This role is based at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
Key responsibilities
- Professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work, including direct and indirect patient care, within scope of practice as per HCPC guidelines.
- Assess capacity, gain valid consent and work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent.
- Using available evidence base, act independently to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, treat and progress patient care, to maximise functional independence and rehabilitation potential, including decision making regarding discharge from care.
- Manage own identified highly complex caseload of patients effectively and efficiently, as well as supporting other staff within the team with management of their caseloads.
- Work as an expert member of a multi‑professional team to ensure effective communication and delivery of care.
- Provide a comprehensive assessment of equipment needs, and assume responsibility for identifying and prescribing correct equipment as informed by patient needs, diagnosis and prognosis while considering clinical contraindications and risk.

Essential
- BSc / Diploma in Occupational Therapy
- Registration with HCPC
- Occupational Health Clearance
- PVG Membership
- Significant postgraduate experience, with significant previous experience in relevant clinical specialty.
- Experience of working with patients with highly complex needs
- Evidence of postgraduate learning at equivalent of Masters level
- Evidence of leading quality improvement work (e.g., audit, systematic reviews, research proposals)
- Highly developed supervisory skill in developing and supporting staff
- Excellent communication skills, including at senior clinical or managerial level
- Teaching and presentation skills
- Experience of practice education

- Computer literate
