IKEA Reading are looking to welcome a Carpenter to the team. The Carpenter transforms raw wood into the backbone of the showroom—building walls, platforms, and raised floors, and cutting and shaping materials like MDF, plywood, and panels to bring each space to life.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Start date: August
- Starting salary of £29,577 per annum, based on competence and experience.
- 39 hours a week, Monday to Friday. Shifts typically start at 6 am and finish at 3:30 pm, with flexibility to match your life and our business needs.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE
- Qualification in Carpentry: NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Wood Occupations / Site Carpentry, or an equivalent qualification (e.g., HND or NVQ in Carpentry).
- Previous carpentry experience in a commercial or retail environment, ideally retail fit‑out or exhibition installations, with a good attention to detail. Experience in tiling and flooring is desirable but not essential.
- Excitement about home furnishings, design and how people live, and the ability to generate new ideas to inspire our customers.
- Proven ability to prioritise and organise workload to use time efficiently and meet agreed goals and deadlines.
- Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain concepts verbally and with visual interpretation.
- Must be 18 years old or over (due to Health and Safety).
- Medical questionnaire required as part of final background checks.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY
- Follow work briefs agreed with colleagues to implement all store media—wall constructions, podiums, fixtures, floor laying, painting and building complex furniture installations.
- Plan and order materials and resources, ensuring accurate costs are sought and agreed to maximise efficiency and minimise costs.
- Work with colleagues to keep the store always in excellent shape to inspire customers.
- Focus on key tasks to meet the needs and expectations of store visitors and minimise disruption when working on the shop floor.
- Maintain safety at all times on the shop floor and take prompt action when safety is compromised.
