Here at Swanton, we are looking for people who share our core values and are able to apply these to the work that they do. At the heart of our ethos are five key words, these underpin the PRIDE we take in our services.

‘Potential, Responsibility, Integrity, Diversity, Empathy’

  • You will need to be adaptable and flexible with excellent communication skills and able to work as part of our team.
  • Experience of challenging behaviour and/or learning disabilities is preferred but all training will be provided.
  • This position is to support a young female in her own home. Due to the needs of the individual this post is available to females only.

The Role from the Person We Support

Hi — I’m looking for a female support worker to join my team. This is a full-time role (up to 38 hours), and you’ll be supporting me in my own home and out in the community.

This role isn’t about ticking boxes — it’s about finding someone who genuinely gets me and can support me in a way that works for both of us.

About Me

I’m quite an easy going and straightforward person. I enjoy shopping, crafting, and I’m really passionate about the work I do as an advocate.

I’m autistic, which mainly affects my planning, organisation, and sometimes communication. I’m independent in a lot of ways, but I need the right kind of support to stay on track and keep things running smoothly.

I also have a dog — they’re fun, a bit sassy, but very loving and friendly — so you’ll need to be comfortable around dogs.

I like a balance: I value my own space, but I also enjoy spending time with staff when it feels natural. Some days I’m more social than others, so being able to read the room and adapt is important.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting me with day-to-day tasks like planning my day and staying organised.
  • Giving prompts and guidance so I can do things independently (not taking over).
  • Helping me get out and about — shopping, appointments, activities, etc.
  • Supporting me with communication and advocating for me when I struggle to speak up.
  • Helping with general household tasks and building routines.
  • Driving my vehicle when needed (full UK driving licence required).
  • Completing basic records when needed.

What I’m Looking For

  • Female driver with a full UK licence.
  • Calm, patient, and understanding.
  • Respectful of boundaries and personal space.
  • Able to balance being professional while still being relaxed and easy to get along with.
  • Someone who can have a laugh but also knows where the line is.
  • Reliable — this is really important to me.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to different days.
  • Experience in care or with autism/learning disabilities is helpful, but not essential — the right attitude matters more.

The Important Bit

I’m not looking for someone overly formal or “by the book.” I want someone genuine — someone who can support me, respect boundaries, and still make everyday life feel normal and comfortable.

This role is about supporting me to build independence, not doing everything for me.
