About The Role

As a Qualified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (QTVI), you will deliver specialist support as part of Gloucestershire County Council’s Sensory Team. You will provide high-quality, timely assessments and interventions, working collaboratively with families, schools and health professionals to support children and young people (ages 0–25) with visual impairments across the county.

Your role will include teaching specialist skills such as Braille, the use of assistive technologies and independent living techniques. You will promote high aspirations and support smooth transitions at key educational stages, including preparation for adulthood.

You will be part of a supportive, dynamic and highly skilled team that is forward‑thinking and collaborative. The work is demanding but rewarding and highly acclaimed by schools and families.

About You

You are a Qualified Teacher and hold the mandatory QTVI qualification.

You have experience working with children and young people with visual impairments and additional needs, and you are confident in assessing and recommending specialist equipment and technologies.

You possess excellent communication, empathy and interpersonal skills, and you can build strong relationships with pupils, parents and professionals.

You can manage a caseload independently and collaboratively as part of the team.

You understand the Gloucestershire Graduated Pathway and SEND processes, and you are committed to safeguarding, equality and continuous professional development.

A valid driving licence and access to a car for countywide travel are essential.

About Us

STEPS (Specialist Teacher and Educational Psychology Service) offers advice, training and support in schools and educational settings to develop inclusive practice. The Advisory Teaching Service supports CYP with a range of SEN, including vision, hearing and multi‑sensory impairments, and works closely with the Educational Psychology service.
