Facilities Assistant – Catering

We are looking for motivated individuals to join our catering team at Bracken House to work in the main kitchen and support the daily lunch and tea food service to patients.
Previous experience of working within a catering environment is desirable but not essential; full training will be given.
We have one 19 hour on a 12 month fixed term part time position (pro rata for part‑time) to cover lunch and teatime food service seven days a week (including weekends and bank holidays).
Shifts are on a 2‑week rota. Daily shifts would be between 11:45 – 18:15 and 10:00 – 14:30. Shift pattern and rota will be discussed in more detail at interview.
We have in‑house training to help your personal development plans and will support you with all of your training needs.
Job responsibilities
Assist with the preparation and production of lunch and tea services, ensuring high quality, safe and nutritious food for patients. Support the Catering Department in meeting task schedules, method statements and procedures.
Please note that this post does not meet the pay level required for a Skilled Worker visa. This salary is below the minimum salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa. The Trust would not be able to sponsor for such a visa. Applicants requiring a Skilled Worker Visa can determine the likelihood of obtaining a Certificate of Sponsorship against the relevant criteria (https://www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa).
Applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. The cost will be deducted from salary over the first 2 months of employment. The DBS application cost is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced). An annual fee of £16 per year applies for the DBS Update Service.

Knowledge
- Basic Knowledge of Health and Safety.
- Understanding of commitment to the Equality and Diversity principles.
- Knowledge and awareness of special diets and allergens.
- Basic understanding of infection control.
- Understanding of the responsibility relating to H&S at work and COSHH.
- Knowledge of manual handling.
- Knowledge of NHS policy and procedures.

Qualifications
- Understanding of cleanliness and good hygiene practices.
- Level 2 Food Safety Certificate, or commitment to obtain it within 12 months of employment (site specific).
- Understanding of routine work procedures developed through on‑the‑job training / experience.
- Recognized catering, cleaning or support services qualification.
Skills
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
- Ability to use initiative to manage job requirements.
- Flexible in managing own time and work duties.
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team.
- A good understanding of customer service (caring, kind, able to hold a conversation with others).

Experience

- Experience working within a healthcare environment that may include a catering, cleaning or portering function.
- Experience with a food safety management system (HACCP).

Contractual Requirements
- Shift flexibility may be required from time to time, including weekends and bank holidays.
- Requirement to attend mandatory and job‑specific training.
- Compliance with Personal Appearance Standards and Personal Protective Equipment (Staff Uniform).
Training
- Ability to undertake all mandatory training as required by the individual site.
- Ability to undertake any necessary skills and competency training required by the post.
