Job Description:

The Marylebone Theatre is seeking a highly skilled and entrepreneurial Development Director to develop and deliver a fundraising strategy aiming to secure £200k annually.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and present a fundraising strategy to increase income across major donations, patrons and corporates, and trusts and foundations.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with major donors, potential patrons and corporate sponsors.
  • Lead the attraction of major donations, including cultivating relationships and creating event opportunities such as gala nights and receptions.
  • Secure and grow Trust & Foundation income, focusing on funding for core costs.
  • Oversee consultant fundraisers in preparing and submitting grant applications.
  • Design, implement and manage a Patrons and Membership scheme, creating member experiences such as press nights, cast meetings, readings and workshops.
  • Design, implement and promote a Corporate Sponsorship scheme, including infrastructure for sponsor experiences and marketing via the website and other channels.
  • Oversee the preparation of high‑quality, targeted fundraising materials for the website, letters, proposals, presentations and updates.
  • Play an active and positive role as part of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Maintain accurate records of meetings, monitor income against targets, and flag risks and opportunities.
  • Provide data and context for updates to the board of trustees.
  • Participate in all training and development initiatives as required.
  • Attend MT press nights, patrons & members evenings, weekly staff meetings and regular MT meetings.
  • Perform any other duties as operationally required and at the discretion of the Board (this list is not exhaustive).

Qualifications

  • Experience in fundraising from individual supporters and managing donor relationships.
  • A proven track record of asking for and securing gifts.
  • Demonstrable success in event planning.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship‑building skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strong planning and project management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A proactive, flexible and collaborative approach, with willingness to work evenings and weekends.
