About The Role
Working hours: 35 hours per week – Permanent contract. This position closes on 17 July 2026. Interview will be conducted in person. Applicants must have an existing right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available. Previous applicants need not apply.
This role is subject to security clearance requirements. BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) – consent and compliance are required before commencement. DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) – candidates will be required to obtain a Standard Disclosure and Barring Service check. Information will be handled confidentially in accordance with the DBS Code of Practice.
Responsibilities
As a Financial Assessment Officer for the Crisis and Resilience Fund, you will:
- Assess online applications from Manchester City Council residents and those resettled into Manchester, applying policy and assessment criteria to meet the needs of the most vulnerable.
- Provide cash grants for financial support, fuel vouchers for gas and electricity assistance, and furniture assistance.
- Contact customers by phone to discuss their applications, clarify information, and confirm eligibility.
- Ensure customers understand the outcome of their assessment and any next steps.
Candidate Requirements
- Good attention to detail and strong IT skills.
- Ability to learn and apply guidance and procedures, using discretion where appropriate.
- Strong customer‑service and communication skills – engage with customers in a sensitive, professional, and non‑judgmental manner.
- Experience in a similar role is desirable, for example working in customer service within a financial setting.

Successful candidates must evidence their right to work in the UK before commencement of employment. This role is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route.
