Site: Cancer Centre Outpatients Department, Town Headington. Salary £25,760 – £27,476 per annum pro rata.

Job Overview

Senior Healthcare Support Worker in the Oncology/Haematology Outpatients Department at Churchill Hospital, Oxford.

Main Duties

  • Undertake a range of delegated and specific clinical skills for patients as documented in the plan of care.
  • Prepare patients, families/carers and the environment for clinical activities, supporting and reassuring patients and their families/carers and preparing specific equipment as necessary.
  • Monitor patients after clinical activities, ensuring their safety, comfort and well being.
  • Demonstrate clinical competence to undertake minor dressings and treatment in consultation with a registered practitioner.
  • Encourage patients, families/carers to share responsibility for their health and promote healthy living as part of the care plan.
  • Assist patient mobilisation safely, using prescribed equipment and techniques, and contribute to falls and moving and handling risk assessment.
  • Recognise changes in a patient’s condition and seek advice from registered practitioners.
  • Perform clinical observations accurately, recording using the agreed electronic National Early Warning Systems and escalating concerns appropriately.
  • Participate in the initial assessment of patient needs under the direct supervision of a registered practitioner.
  • Seek support after an untoward incident and report concerns regarding poor practice, attitude or behaviour of any health care professional through appropriate channels.
  • Undertake patient transfer and escort duties between departments as per policy.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Evidence of the Care Certificate.

Experience

  • Significant experience of the NHS and/or healthcare.
  • Venepuncture and phlebotomy skills.
